Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and a commentator working for NBC News in Washington D.C., is a television anchor. She received an undergraduate degree in English Literature at the University of Pennsylvania after growing up in New York City. Mitchell began in the field of radio and television reporter for Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. In 1976, she joined CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV in Washington DC (then WTOP). After two years, she joined NBC News as a Washington reporter. 1981 she started covering for the White House, and in 1988 she was appointed the Chief Correspondent to Congress. Mitchell became the Chief White House reporter in 1992, and chief Foreign Affairs correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell participated on the TV program Meet the Press and also was the host for the program. She participated as a member of the panel during the 1988 Presidential Debates, which featured George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell received the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and, in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) awarded Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her work in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering the White House in 1981-1988, and during the presidency of Ronald Reagan. The reporting she did included plenty of significant stories, including the Iran-contra affair, the tax reform and the budget and also the issue of arms control. She traveled widely with the president Reagan for summits along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
